Stepping back, people using the photographic space

A lot of photographers fill their entire frame with just a persons face or eyes and tell us the eyes says everything about the person. This is wrong. The eyes tell us NOTHING about the person. Charles Manson has beautiful eyes, Osama Bin Laden has huge puppy eyes, ever noticed that? Does that tell you something about him? No, he's the leader of a huge terrorist network.

Photographers who are often inspired by painters from the 1700's are often have a tendency to take those extra five steps away from their subjects, without losing any of the intimacy with them. Most famously is perhaps David Lachapelle, who with the exception of maybe two of his images always show the entire person and in most cases several people in one shot to make it what it is.
Today we'd like to bring you two other artists who work in a somewhat similar fashion. Jeff Wall and Gregory Crewdson.

Film photographers

Although everyone might not be aware of the magnitude of which film is still alive to day the fact is that it is very much still alive. We have the playful photographers donning simple Holga Cameras, Diana Cameras and other cheap film-based models. We have the film enthusiast, who's just not given up on film just yet and stick with their old compact camera with 35mm film in it, them and the elderly people who's just not made the change. We have the art photographer who wants to make huge prints with no grain. We have the people who's given digital photography a try and not liked it, who's discovered that even with the newest and most expensive Hasselblad cameras you still cant get the three-dimensional feeling you get with film. Now wether this is due to the fact that ... film is made up from silver particles and particles usually are round, making edges more soft yet hard, or wether its just elitist film propaganda, is uncertain. What is certain tho is film is still very much alive and kicking.

Rebekka of Iceland

Icelandic photography is often recognized by open, cold landscapes, often set next to horses, abandoned buildings (or eyðibýli), waterfalls or Coke machines in the middle of the harsh land.

Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir is no different, infact she is the leading web based resource for this type of photography for the last few years. Her mix of self portraits, landscape photography, animal photography and other portraits show what you could excpect from someone from a country such as Iceland. The skin tones in her portraits cold like the landscape, yet the feeling of warmth vibrating from her pictures like the hot springs found around Iceland.

First up: Lara Jade

Out first photographer is LaraJade ( http://flickr.com/people/larajade/and  http://www.larajade.co.uk/ ), who started her desent towards flickr fandom on may 16th, 2006 and already then she showed great softness and vunerability that come across in so many female photographers pictures. She dabbeled in self portraits, pictures of her friends, wedding photography, children photography but all along slowly moving towards and stopping by fashion photography where she seems to spend most of her time as of current. LaraJade is a breath of fresh air, and it is always good to see young people like herself do so well in the world of photography.
